Everybody Welcome

Erin McKay | Owner & Yoga Teacher

Erin McKay

Erin McKay’s yoga journey began while in graduate school when classmates gushed about how great they were feeling after heated power yoga classes. Desperate for that same “high”, and a break from the stress of school, she attended a class. It was short-lived. Erin spent the hour worrying about whether she would faint or fall over, and she never returned.

Upon moving to the North Shore in 2011, Erin was training for half marathons and then the Boston marathon. She took her first yoga class with Katy Dagle as a means to stretch after long runs. Not immediately hooked, but also more open to giving it another try, Erin attempted to attend weekly classes at Treetop Yoga. After the birth of the fourth McKay baby, running was no longer as important, and Erin found yoga to satisfy her both physically as a “legitimate” workout, but she also found solitude on her mat that she could not find during the busy days of parenting four kids.

Thanks to the wonderful instruction from all Treetop Yoga teachers, Erin developed a love for the practice and was excited to join Treetop Yoga Teacher Training. Erin now enjoys teaching at Treetop and has found joy in teaching kids yoga to all ages. Building on her experience as a science educator, she sees the healing value in “taking a breath” and hopes she can pass that along to kids. She is a self-proclaimed arm balance junkie but loves teaching different styles of yoga to adults and helping students with alignment. She tries to always remember her first days on the mat and give students the space to find what resonates with them. An active member of the community, and an advocate for our public schools, Erin hopes to develop programs and workshops that build community and introduce mindfulness into school settings. Erin resides in Gloucester with her husband, Sean, and four children, Caroline, Liam, Finn and Cormac.
